All are MOV-based and offer a fault indication window and a remote alarm output.

“These surge protection devices help mitigate the risk of a thermal runaway condition that is caused by sustained over-voltage and surges that can potentially result in a fire hazard,” according to the company.

AC surge protection

The 1270 and 1280 ac-rated parts can have 80kA 8/20µs per mode surge capability, and are rated up to 50kArms short-circuit and 12.5kA for 10/350μs impulses.

“For easy replacement, both model series are available in pluggable modules, and are intended to be installed on the load side at the front end of the installation in the main switchboard and positioned close to sensitive terminals or installations with lightning rods,” according to the company.

DC surge protection

Among 1430 and 1440 dc-rated series are 14 models intended to offer protection voltages from 48Vdc to 1.5kVdc.

These too have a replaceable modular design, and can handle 80kA 8/20 μs per mode surges and 12.5kA 10/350μs impulses.

Applications for both ac and dc types are foreseen in electric vehicle charging stations, battery energy storage systems, photovoltaic arrays and wind turbines.
